The Annual General Meeting of the Club has been arranged for :

Race Night

Venue – Beverly Hotel, 75-77 Cathedral Road, Cardiff. CF11 9PG

First Race is at 7.00pm – Honest Steve Darwent will be the Bookmaker for the Evening.

The Race Night is being organised  to support the 1st team in their European Ventures ( and help the first team squad to dine in the finest Croat restaurants).

Running on the race night will be a silent auction.

The prizes will be:

British Lions merchandise = It’s a Lions satchel bag with a lions history book in it. (All will be signed by JPR)

Olympic Hockey tickets – Sunday 5 August (7pm-10.45pm)

Also there will be a club quiz, up at UWIC on the 16th of May. 6:30 for a 7pm start. £2 per person entry and Max of 5 people per team. There will also be a raffle.

It is on the same day as the ‘funnel cup’ which is the UWIC team v’s UWIC old boys. SO all are welcome to come and watch that match as well.

Henry Erickson – won promotion with Sweden into the top tier of Indoor hockey where he will be facing the likes of Germany, England and Spain. 

Cardiff & UWIC ‘E’ – vs – Swansea University ‘A’

 For the last game of the season, played in the blazing midday sunshine, the Cardiff & UWIC E team knew what they had to do to maintain 8^th position – they needed a WIN! The position  may not sound particularly grand, but over the past four game-weeks Cardiff & UWIC E battled to four consecutive wins to lift them from a relegation threatening 10^th place to 8^th. Whether it was the sun or stage fright, the Swansea Uni team probably played the better hockey in the first period but the score at half time remained 0-0.  Cardiff & UWIC picked it up following the break and eventually scored a scrappy but important goal following a goal mouth scramble, only for Swansea Uni to level five minutes later…. with the sun still blazing and legs getting tired the game turned scrappy with both teams looking to grind out the win with both coming close; a special note to Owen for a magnificent diving right handed save to keep the game level, but the game finished 1-1 at full time.

Cardiff & UWIC ‘B’ – vs – Bristol University ‘B’

Cardiff and UWIC B’s took on Bristol Uni at WIS on Saturday afternoon with the sun shining. After a half hour delay the game finally started with Bristol only having 9 players. Cardiff took an early lead from a great pass into the D by Ted which Ed cleverly deflected into the back of the net. Bristol’s other 2 players turned up and made an immediate impact to level the score at 1-1. Cardiff responded well and knocked in 2 more goals before half time, scored by James and Mark respectively.

Cardiff started the second half as they finished the first with an early well worked goal finished off by Ed. Moments later James made it 5-1 with a clever move that left the keeper flat footed and an empty net for James to dribble into. Cardiff started to sit back and Bristol had some good possession resulting in 2 goals. With less than 5 minutes to go Mark ensured the win was in the bag when he latched on to Ed’s cross field pass and his shot was deflected into the goal by a Bristol defender. Final score Cardiff & UWIC B’s 6-3 Bristol Uni. Cardiff finish off the season in 2nd place.

Cardiff & UWIC ‘A’ – vs – Taunton Vale ‘A’

Result – Won 4-1

With the league title in the bag and a hot afternoon we could have been forgiven for taking our eye off the ball today.  Minds wandered to sitting on the grass with a cold pint or 6.  We found it difficult to get out of our half and away from the Vale full on press.  The slow sandy pitch made it difficult to keep the pace high.  However following a magnificent triple save from a PC by veteran goalkeeper Clevs, the ball was quickly moved downfield for Rusty to score.  After this we held onto the ball much better and a second goal was added by Barber with a fine strike from the edge of the D.  The second half saw Vale continue to work hard and pile on the pressure.  More fine saves from the half and a bit centurion and a follow up PC blast high into the roof saw us move into a comfortable 3 nil lead with about 15 minutes to go.  Then disaster as the old git in goal had a brainwave and decided to let in the most pathetic of shots go in.  Time for one more smother outside the D from Clevs and a great strike from Rusty saw the game over and a 4- 1 win.

What a great season.  Bring on Whitchurch in the cup final this Sat  1pm start at WIS.

Cardiff & UWIC ‘E’ – vs – Whitchurch ‘D’

Result – Won 3-0

Cardiff & UWIC E travelled to Whitchurch hoping to make it four wins out of four and cement their position in the league for next season with a win against our biggest rivals from across town. The game didn’t disappoint. Within minutes of the start Cardiff went a goal up after a composed finish from Aaron Waite from lovely slip from Joseff Bird. Then, after a short period of defending, lightning (or in this case, Aaron) struck twice to make it two nil placing the ball in the bottom corner. Again  Whitchurch came at us and after some last ditch defending by Neil Evans and Neil Sergeant (neil²) and the ever present and robust persons of Rhodri and Glenn the ball broke to Joseff who put Aaron through and when the Whitchurch goalkeeper came hurtling out of goal to confront Aaron, he made him pay by taking him on scoring from a tight reverse shot to make it 3-0. Following this, a good battle ensued to half time with Cardiff & UWIC defending a number of short corners. The second half was a dominant display by Cardiff who locked down the Whitchurch 5-man midfield and denied Whitchurch any shots on goal. The game ended 3-0.

Cardiff & UWIC ‘A’ – vs – PGSOB

Our rivals for the league title Exeter Uni lost away to Hereford so a win today put us as champions and into Prem 2, the Championship next year.  We scored after 1 minute and never looked back, 6 nil up at half time and going for more goals in the second half but we lost a bit of shape in our enjoyment and PGSOB dug deep to avoid a potential humiliation.  All credit it to them as they were unable to bring their best team and they made worked hard in the second half and were rewarded for their effort  with a goal at the death.

At the start of the year we set out our target as promotion to the new Championship division and we have performed well all year.  We had a couple of lows in the first half of the season but after Xmas we really began to play well

Well done lads.  You have been fantastic this season.  A massive thank-you to skipper Matt Martin in his final year at UWIC.  You have been an inspirational player and skipper and how nice is it to see a genuinely nice guy do well.  Good luck on your PGCE next year.  Also many thanks to several senior student players, especially CJ and Barber.  Si Pocock has thrown himself into game time coaching and to be honest my life as a coach this year has been easy.   Much credit to Danny and now to Toby for getting the UWIC team to such a standard.  Well done to one old dog – Jay! and to all the freshers, the cardiff youth of Dale and Morgs and Tom and JC.  We have a fantastic season but we have 2 games to go.  Taunton away next week and Whitchurch in the cup final.  Bring em on!

CHAMPIONS  Oh Yes!

Cardiff & UWIC ‘E’ – vs – Llanishen & Caerphilly’A’

Result – Won  5-0

 This was a must win game for Cardiff & UWIC E against bottom of the league Llan and Caerphilly. All the players knew the ramifications of a loss to this Llan team and the pressure and nervousness showed in the first half because despite far superior possession and due to Llan and Caerphilly defending with 10 men in D, the first half ended 0-0. The second started in much the same manner until the deadlock was broken with a goal from a short corner and two more well-crafted goals followed suit. To their credit Llan and Caerphilly did continue to push but failed to capitalise on some well-earned but well defended short corners and with two more goals the match ended 5-0.

Cardiff & UWIC ‘E’ – vs – Swansea Bay ‘B’

 Result  - Won 4-0

Another must win game for Cardiff & UWIC E. To that end, the team turned up to the pitch early, warmed up and then hit the ground running against a lacklustre and disinterested Swansea side. As a result, when the whistle blew to start the match we started much brighter, we scored 2 goals inside the first 10 minutes and had the run of the park. Swansea Bay eventually woke up mid-way through the first half and pegged us back till half time looking dangerous themselves. A stalemate developed at the start of the second half until our preparation and drive shone through and we started to create chances and we eventually scored two more goals in fairly quick succession with 10 mins to go to take the match beyond them at 4-0.
