Cardiff and UWIC HC Men’s 4ths play in the Severn Division of the N4 West of England and South Wales Hockey League.
Under the captaincy of Mark Shelton, this team has been promoted twice in the last two seasons as champions of South Wales Division 2 and South Wales Division 1. They have not lost a league game in over 2 seasons and will now be playing at a level no other 4th XI in the clubs history has reached; The Severn League.
An eclectic bunch (ranging from an OAP to a Space Cadet and a Scouser to a Traveller of Romanic Descent) that can boast international caps, experience, skill, pace, age and mass, they embark on their ongoing crusade to bring sexy hockey to the masses, conquering all who stand before them.
Many have argued that the decline in viewing figures of WWE Wrestling correlates directly with the on-field success of the 4ths and their growing fan club which currently consists of 2 (though some might highlight the rise in popularity of Mixed Martial Arts and the UFC as a contributing factor).
With a weekly captain’s speech reminiscent of 80′s film The Karate Kid and a short corner routine consisting of a dozen variations on the same theme, the 4ths look forward to the coming season on the field and in the bar as the best dressed 4th XI in world hockey.
