Cardiff and UWIC Hockey Club

UWIC Mens Team

Since the merger of Cardiff Hockey Club with the University of Wales Institute Cardiff (UWIC), the club has seen an influx of students through out the seven men teams that now form Cardiff and UWIC HC.

Not only do the students compete on a weekend, but they represent the university in BUCS (British Universities and College Sport) on a Wednesday. UWIC Hockey runs 2 men sides and 3 women sides each week and play their home games at Cyncoed Campus. The club has seen a huge rise in the level of performance over the last couple of years with the men’s 1sts gaining promotion to premier south after consecutive promotions.

This was rewarded at the university’s sports awards, as they were presented with team of the year. The seconds narrowly missed out on promotion in the last game of the season, but a good influx of freshers this year has massively strengthened both the first team and second team squads therefore, strengthening the chance of achieving the clubs aims for the season. The first team aim to remain in the premier league and the seconds aim to gain promotion.
